Description

Polyvine Exterior Extreme Varnish

An ultra-tough, water-based cross-linking polyurethane varnish for exterior surfaces requiring a waterproof finish and UV protection. UV filters help reduce greying, ageing and deterioration. Biocides help protect against mildew, mould and fungus. The coating cures in 16 hours to an industrial-level finish.

Suitable uses

Exterior timber and surfaces including wooden walkways and decking, exterior furniture, doors, window frames, worktops and bar tops, as well as stone, slate, unglazed tiles, brick, concrete, flagstones and paving. Polyvine lists resistance to water, stains, heat, chemicals and abrasion, and says the product contains anti-slip for stairs and floors.

Finishes and size

This listing is for the 1 L size. The finish selector includes Satin and Dead Flat, plus Gloss (currently out of stock). Polyvine’s current product information lists Satin and Dead Flat finishes.

Product details

  • Water-based polyurethane; clear, waterproof and hard-wearing.
  • Coverage: approximately 15–20 m² per litre, depending on surface porosity.
  • Touch dry: 60+ minutes. Recoat: 3 hours. Full cure: 16 hours at 20°C.
  • Apply 2–3 thin coats using a synthetic varnish brush, roller or spray.
  • UV protection; water, stain, heat, chemical and abrasion resistance.
  • Listed by Polyvine as food and child safe; the technical sheet also references relevant food-contact and toy-safety standards.

Preparation and application

Remove old finishes, dust, dirt, oil, resin, wax and grease. Sand with the grain and clean thoroughly. Mix well by gently inverting the container; do not shake. Apply thin coats. On new softwood or porous surfaces, dilute the first coat with 10% water. Lightly sand between coats if the grain rises. For Dead Flat with high durability, apply two coats of Satin followed by one coat of Dead Flat; Polyvine recommends three Satin coats followed by a final Dead Flat coat for full UV protection. Apply Dead Flat sparingly and brush out well.

Important information

Always test on a small area and check compatibility first. Do not continuously submerge the finish in water. Appearance varies with the substrate and number of coats; remove spills promptly. Protect from temperature extremes and store sealed in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid eye contact; if contact occurs, rinse immediately with warm water. Clean tools with soap and water before the varnish dries. Do not pour leftovers into drains.
